Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks
This smart and modern hotel, which is located a stone’s throw from the O2, Canary Wharf, the Excel Exhibition Centre and London City Airport, is a convenient hotel for tourists to London and professionals. Its contemporary design was at the centre of our priorities when considering which LED replacements to supply. This project was comprehensive, and we replaced guest facing areas such as meeting rooms, bedrooms and outside areas aswell as back of house areas such as staircases, the kitchen and offices. Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks also required emergency lighting and sensors throughout to improve the safety of guests and staff alike. This crucial requirement was factored in during our site survey and when supplying replacement products. Overall, this project relied on our expertise and experience in all types of lighting to ensure the best results.

Bedrooms
The bedrooms in Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks contained a variety of different lamps and fittings, it was important that the lighting replacements we chose did not affect the ambience that was central to our clients’ design specifications. We replaced 36W fluorescent tubes with the Osram LED T5 18W tube, 36W high frequency fluorescent tubes with the Philips Master High Frequency 20W LED Tube. High frequency tubes have a quicker start up time and are more energy efficient. Finally, we replaced 11W PL lamps with the Osram LED PL 4.5W in the bedroom bathrooms. We ensured that in the main bedroom the new lighting was a warm white colour, the most suitable colour temperature to support comfort and relaxation.
The Products
Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks required a range of products from 600 x 600 panels and emergency functionality to floodlights for the external areas. We replaced 600 x 600 18W T8 fluorescent tube fittings with the Integral 26W 600 x 600 LED Panel, 5ft 58W fluorescent battens with the Ansell Tornado LED battens, 28W 2D compact fluorescents with the Ansell LED Disco Bulkhead and 50W Halogen MR16s with the Integral 4.8W LED MR16. To support emergency and sensor requirements we supplied the Ansell Eagle LED exit sign and the Integral LED emergency coin.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
This project was a great success with a return on investment in just over a year and an annual energy saving of £14,086.52. The payback on projects like this means that in a short time, the hotel can feel the benefits of the savings made whilst also helping to become greener and more sustainable.
