Return on Investment Case Study…

Best Western Croydon

The Best Western Croydon Aerodrome is part of the Best Western Signature Collection. These hotels are handpicked by the group and are designed to reflect their environment. Saving energy is always at the heart of our clients requirements when completing LED lighting projects but in this project, we had the added requirement of ensuring lighting aligned with the design aims of the signature collection. To do this, we selected and supplied decorative fittings where applicable to align with the hotel’s overall aesthetic. This case study is also an example of a project where our clients decided to utilise their own contractors. This led to an exceptionally smooth installation as there was less need for back and forth between us, contractors and our clients. This streamlined process meant that the project was completed efficiently and highlights the flexibility we can adopt with our own project management processes.

Spotlight On…

Bedrooms

Bedrooms throughout the various floors in the Best Western Croydon were due to be replaced. In each of the rooms there were 35W Halogen MR16s aswell as 28W ES Halogen lamps. None of the lighting within the bedrooms was dimmable which meant that when supplying replacements, we could offer more cost-efficient products which do not have the dimmability feature. We supplied more than 280 Philips LED Corepro 3.5W GU10s alongside over 210 Integral 8.6W GLS ES. Both of these lamps were supplied in colour temperature 2700k, a very warm white colour that is perfect for bedroom settings. You can read more about the different colour temperatures on our solutions page.

The Products

This type of project at Best Western Croydon meant that a wide variety of different lamps and fittings were supplied. This is due to the inclusion of both back of house and guest facing areas. We replaced 28W 2D 4 Pin Fitting with emergency function with the Ansell Disco Evo 2 16W with emergency, in corridors we replaced 26W 4 Pin Compat Fluorescent fittings with the Ansell Disco 16W. These fittings were fitted with the Chrome Bezel, to align with the decor of the hotel. We also replaced 26W 4 Pin compact fluorescent fittings with the Ansell Multifit fitting, this was due to the need for a recessed fitting. Also, we replaced 5ft 58W fluorescent battens with the Ansell Tornado 30W 5ft LED batten, 35W MR16s with the Philips Corepro 3.5W GU10 and Integral Evo Fire Downlight, 28W ES Halogen GLS lamps with the Integral 8.6W LED GLS ES, 9W GX53 halogen lamps with the Integral 5W GX53 LED, 600×600 4 x 18w surface fitting T8 fluorescent with the Integral 600 x 600 Evo LED Backlit panel, dimmable 35W MR16s with the Philips Master Value 3.7W GU10 with Integral Evofire Downlight alongside the Varilight transformer to allow dimming and finally we replaced 4ft 36W T8 Batten Fittings with the Bell Ultra 20W LED Integrated batten with sensor integrated in the fitting.

The Bottom Line…

Small Changes, Big Impact

The Best Western Croydon project showcases a huge achievement in saving money and energy through replacing outdated lighting for LED The return on investment time on this project was phenomenal, with only a year payback and colossal annual cost savings of £40,368. Not only were savings made through the lighting itself, but this project was also highly efficient due to the utilisation of our clients’ contractors. This project highlights the overall benefit of switching to LED in addition to our flexible project management approach which prioritises client specifications and ways of working.
