Holiday Inn Hemel Hempstead
The Holiday Inn at Hemel Hempstead has an open lobby with a stylish bar, stunning conservatory restaurant and lounge. At the start of the LED project an energy meter was installed to track energy usage in the areas Lightsave would be working on that included; the restaurant, reception, and bedroom corridors. This allowed Lightsave to establish a start point for energy usage to accurately report the savings made from the smart solutions.

The Restaurant / Dining Area
In the restaurant we replaced the existing LED GU10 and Decorative A60 lamps with dimmable versions and added an Ansell Octo controller to each circuit. The controller being on the circuit allows the lamps to be dimmed via the Casambi smart app, enhancing the control whilst saving energy.
The hotel team now can create scheduled light levels based on the time of day and the required ambience in this area. These pre-setup scenes can be programmed to the kinetic switches as well as these switches also having the power to override and increase or decrease light levels just like a wired dimmer switch.
Throughout the restaurant we have used Casambi PIR sensors which recognise movement in an area and turn lights off according to predetermined criteria of time without movement in an area. Another added feature of these sensors is the daylight harvesting technology which detects the lux level in the specified area and works in tandem with the Octo controllers controlling the lights; increasing or decreasing the power output and light from lamps to achieve the predetermined light levels. This maximises on savings in areas which typically receive a lot of natural light as this would not require the LEDs to not produce as much light.
The Products
The Ansell Octo Controller along with Ansell Octo Wireless Switches and Ansell Octo Smart Recessed PIR Sensors made improvements in the everyday usage of the lighting.

Small Changes, Big Impact
In the restaurant we have also installed one Octo smart controller on each circuit and Casambi smart PIR sensors to give the hotel the same control as in the restaurant.
Improvements in the corridor were through the installation of the smart PIR sensors. The corridors have no natural light so they had been previously setup to be always on day and night with reductions in the evening. Using the smart sensors, they recognise a lack of activity in that area and reduce light levels accordingly. The benefit of the use of the Casambi smart sensors allows the lights to always be on but at a reduced rate by dimming the lights on the circuit rather than cutting all the power. This was a benefit to the hotel as they did not want the lights in the corridor to ever be fully off.
Now that the hotel has benefited from having a smart control system installed the energy used will be dramatically reduced. LED lighting products will also contribute to the saving of energy. The Holiday Inn Hemel Hempstead will soon see a return on their investment and will continue to into the future.
