Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Farnborough
Many areas of this hotel were picked up on from the results of the lighting survey conducted by the projects team. The kitchen was a particularly good example of where new LED battens were put in place of fluorescent ones. The kitchen lights are on for long periods of time so the extra efficiency of the LED’s really make an impact on reducing the hotels overall energy costs. Storage, back-of-house rooms, toilets and also meeting rooms were also spaces that benefitted from upgrading to LED.

Meeting Room
& Bar Area
The Hampshire Suite had failing LED panels which we replaced with new Integral Evo LED 600 x 600mm panels, using these we know that the quality of the product from our trusted supplier will last for many years without the need of changing which saves on maintenance costs. Also the hotel’s Hampshire Bar area is a busy space, mostly in the evenings where the lights are kept on for long periods of time. It previously used 1 foot T8 fluorescent battens but after our projects team upgraded to V-Tac 1 foot IP20 4000K LED battens this area will save a lot on energy. The storage room for this part of the hotel also changed 2D 4 pin lighting to now using the Ansell Disco LED bulkhead chosen for its compact look, even light output and energy efficiency.
The Products
The top products used in this project were the Ansell Disco EVO LED bulkhead to replace 2D Bulkheads and the Ansell Tornado batten which replaced T8 fluorescent battens. We also upgraded the incandescent candle lamps for the stylish Osram 4W frosted Candles. Osram PL lamps for the outdoor toilet area replaced fluorescent Battens. LED panels in the meeting rooms were used to upgrade older versions that were failing.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
Outdoor areas of the hotel are also important, the balcony area had been using festoon lighting along with linear halogen lamps in floodlights, the floodlights were consuming a lot of energy. Replacing these with Philips LED floodlighting which are also rated at IP65 for weather resistance were the perfect solution. Our projects team also chose lighting products based on their quality and design that will best suit the position it will be placed in. These floodlights do not lose any light into the sky, keeping light pollution to a minimum whilst still giving a bright light output using a fraction of the energy it was using before.
Every change amounted to large overall savings in energy consumption and maintenance costs with a reasonably short amout of time for their return on investment.
