Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Cardiff
Holiday Inn Cardiff is located right at the centre of the city of Cardiff and is hugely popular with business people and tourists alike. Whilst a great deal of our projects include the replacement of lighting across a whole site, our project with Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre was slightly different. As this project was large in scale, we completed it in two different phases. We started off with the first phase which was mostly focused in the guest facing areas. We subsequently completed a second phase where we replaced the back of house and staff areas with LED lighting. A project of this nature has a strong requirement on sensor and emergency fittings to maximise safety and maintain the essential day-to-day operations of this busy city centre hotel. Whilst this was a larger project, it ran very smoothly and successfully. Multiple site visits meant any issues that arose could be dealt with quickly and with minimal disruption to the project.

Spotlight On…
Callaghan’s Bar
An area that the Holiday Inn Cardiff were keen to replace was the outside area of the Callaghan’s Bar, this was one of the important guest facing areas that we completed in this project, and it was crucially important as the floodlighting that was in use was not functioning. We replaced the faulty 100W LED Floodlights with a lower wattage, 70W Philips Ledinaire LED Floodlight. This switch meant that the lighting of this area could return to full functionality, enhancing guest experience and safety.
The Products
The illumination of the back of house areas is essential in facilitating and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the hotel. Across this project we replaced battens, PLCs and 2D Fittings. In some areas it was essential to make sure that fittings were complete with emergency features and/or sensors. Where we replaced battens, we replaced these in various sizes with the Ansell Tornado. This product was chosen due to the option to add sensors and emergency, meaning that whatever the functionality needed, there would be consistency across the hotel. 2D Fittings were replaced with the Ansell Disco fitting for very similar reasons; due to the ease of installing emergency or sensor versions of the fitting. A final popular item in this project was the Philips Corepro LED 4 Pin PLC which we used to replace 18W PLC lamps.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
The key consideration in this project was functionality and safety. The aim was to ensure that staff and back-of-house areas were supporting the daily management and running of the hotel. The installation of LED battens, floodlights and bulkheads has meant that Holiday Inn Cardiff has been able to save on energy costs and money whilst improving the illumination of personnel areas, enhancing their working environment.
