Best Western The Queen
at Chester
Best Western The Queen at Chester was built in 1860 and has been creating wonderful experiences for discerning travellers, situated at the gateway to Chester. A free ROI lighting survey was conducted for the hotel, we meticulously counted every product in use in each area to complete a comprehensive breakdown. We identified the areas that needed changing and upgrading to offer the best possible solution for saving energy and for the future sustainability of the hotel.

Spotlight On…
Kitchen and Back-Of-House
The kitchen had 2 and 4 pin compact fluorescent lamps which the projects’ team replaced with Integral multi-fit adjustable LED downlights which give a high-quality light output, perfect for kitchen lighting. Fire exit stairs, housekeeping stock rooms, boiler room and cellar rooms had T8 fluorescent tube lighting and 2D fluorescent lighting. With the phase out of fluorescent lighting the best way forward was to replace the fittings with LED Ansell Tornado battens and Ansell Disco bulkheads which would be far more energy efficient. These fittings included microwave sensors meaning lighting would only come on when the areas are in use otherwise the lighting will automatically switch off, saving on energy costs.
The Products
The Ansell Tornado LED batten was chosen for its non-corrosive properties and microwave sensor that saves on energy. The Ansell Disco LED bulkhead looks good and at the same time gives an even light distribution. The kitchen had the Integral LED multi-fit downlights to give a good light for food preparation and safety. Philips LED panel lighting was chosen for the staff canteen to integrate with the panel ceiling tiles.
