Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Peterborough
The hotel had a lot of store rooms that needed to change from compact fluorescent to LED alternatives. Also the main suites, toilets, main entrance and reception area were consuming a lot of energy with older halogen lamps. The Lightsave Projects team, after conducting a lighting survey, could spot the areas of the hotel that would most benefit from changing to LED. The amount of savings that could be made from an initial investment would soon be seen in just over a year, reducing energy used, costs and CO2.

The Entrance and Reception
We know that the entrance and reception areas are very important for first impressions when new guests visit the hotel so keeping lighting colours consistent throughout the area is a must. Replacing MR16 halogen lamps to Philips Master Value LED GU10 dimmable with Evofire downlights kept the whole area uniform. The Ansell Freska downlight was also used in the foyer. The Integral LED floodlight replaced halogen floodlighting, the floodlight also includes a PIR sensor which senses movement, minimising the amount of time that the lighting is kept on for. The Ansell Delta LED bulkhead also provided part of the exterior lighting used which replaced 2D fluorescent lamps. The lighting in the foyer and reception area are on for long periods of time so the amount of energy will be reduced due to the LED alternatives, also reducing the amount of times the lamps have to be replaced due to the long lamp life.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
The hotel suite areas had halogen MR16 lamps throughout so we replaced these with Philips Mater Value GU10 LED lamps combined with the Ansell Evofire downlight. The downlights are IP65 rated so can withstand any moisture and dust effecting its function, also fire rated to stay on when the electricity is out for up to 90 minutes. The Philips GU10’s are dimmable so setting the feel of the room with the lighting control helps to set the atmosphere of the room when desired. The high efficiency of the lamps make these a great choice for sustainability.
