Return on Investment Case Study…
Crowne Plaza Manchester Airport
Crowne Plaza Manchester Airport has recently undergone a site wide renovation. A key aspect of this renovation recent refurbishment was its lighting upgrade. Switching lighting across the site to LED was crucial to ensure that the hotel’s lighting was a continuation of the modernisation of the hotel. This project was completed across two phases due to the ongoing works being completed on site. The second survey and installation phase of this case study was completed to ensure that the hotel lighting was switched to LED. This project included upgrading lighting in bedrooms, bathrooms, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas such as the kitchens and offices and high-impact guest areas such as the lobby. This project was a great success where energy savings were maximised alongside maintaining the decorative feel and overall aesthetic of the hotel.

Bedrooms
This hotel’s decorative aesthetic is echoed in the guest bedrooms, where our clients at the Crowne Plaza Manchester Airport had a variety of different lighting in use. Multiple lights help to create a warm and welcoming environment in the hotel bedrooms. In the bedrooms we replaced compact fluorescent 9W and 13W ceiling fittings with the Ansell LED Disco Bulkhead with a chrome bezel for the ultimate decorative and luxury feel. In addition to this we replaced 13W and 26W wall and floor lamps with the Philips 4.5W and 9W LED 4 Pin PLC lamps and we replaced the 9W GX53 task lamps with the Integral LED 5W GX53 lamp. We also replaced the lighting in the bedroom bathrooms and here we were able to save our clients even more energy. We replaced 4ft fluorescent tubes with the Osram 14W LED tube and during installation we removed the ballast from the circuit and modified the wiring so that even less energy could be used with the ballast that was no longer needed. These upgrades in the bathroom highlight our emphasis on maximising energy savings without scrimping on decor and product quality.
The Products
The extensive number of lamps and light fittings in this project meant our expertise in LED technology and the latest, highest quality products was key. Across the site we upgraded a wide variety of lamps and fittings to LED. We replaced 20W BC spital compact fluorescent lamps with the Philips A60 11W BC Frosted, we swapped 35W MR16s with the Integral Evo Fire Downlight and the Philips Corepro 3.5W GU10 and where dimming capability was needed, we fitted the Philips Master Value 3.7W GU10 alongside dimmable switches. We also upgraded 2x18W compact fluorescent downlights with the Integral 18W LED downlight. This product is excellent as it has the functionality to adjust the cut-out size of the fitting based on the existing cut out, reducing the need for redecoration or the creation of new cut out holes. We also replaced the 4 x 18W T8 fittings with the Integral LED 600 x 600 Evo Panel. We also replaced various batten fittings; 2ft, 5ft and twin 5ft with the Bell LED Dura batten in various lengths and wattages. We replaced various wall lights, desk lamps and bedside lights that were 18W or 20W compact fluorescent lamps with the Philips Corepro A60 8W ES and finally we replaced 11W SBC compact fluorescent wall lights with the Bell LED SBC 4W filament candle.
