Return on Investment Case Study…

Best Western Gloucester Robinswood

The Best Western Gloucester Robinswood Hotel is situated close to the historic city of Gloucester with a good variety of attractions and natural wonders in the local area. This project was an extensive overhaul of the traditional lighting across the hotel of back of house areas such as offices and corridors, guest facing areas such as the bar, bathrooms, leisure centre and external areas where there were wall lights in use. This is a standout case study because this project was completed across 3 weeks in one singular phase. The project’s completion was extremely efficient and smooth and one that we are extremely proud to add to our repertoire.

Spotlight On…

Restaurant & Bar

The restaurant and bar area of Best Western Gloucester posed a series of specific requirements. Firstly, the lighting in this area was dimmable and several fittings needed emergency functionality. The fittings in this area were 42W PLT recessed fittings. We replaced these with the Integral LED Multifit fitting. This is a great product as the cut-out size is adjustable, meaning you can install the same product, even if your cut out sizes vary. For the fittings that needed emergency we supplied the fittings alongside the Kosnic Neka Emergency, this is an excellent product as the emergency sticks on to the fitting with no need for a further cut out. As these products needed to be dimmable, it was essential that we supply a compatible dimmer module. Therefore, we supplied the Varilight module to ensure that lighting dimmed without issue. These changes meant that the hotel could maintain the exact same functionality of lighting in the bar / restaurant area without any issues with dimming and with emergency features.

The Products

This project included a comprehensive overhaul of lighting in the hotel. We replaced a variety of different back of house areas and client facing areas but ensured that we replaced light fittings with consistency, using the same products where possible. To replace 42W PLT Recessed fittings, we supplied the Integral Multifit LED fitting. This is a great product as the cut-out size is adjustable, meaning you can install the same product, even if your cut out sixes vary. We also supplied 28W 2D 4 Pin fittings with the Ansell 9W Disco LED Bulkhead, in some areas where the design stipulated, we supplied this with the chrome bezel. For fittings that needed emergency we supplied the fitting alongside the Kosnic Neka Emergency, this is an excellent product as the emergency sticks on to the fitting with no need for a further cut out. Where extra dimming modules were needed we supplied the Varilight module to ensure that lighting dimmed without issue. We replaced 5ft and 4ft 58W/26w single and twin fluorescent batten fittings with the Ansell Tornado LED batten with integrated microwave sensor where needed. We replaced 35W 12V MR16s with the Philips Corepro 3.5W GU10 alongside the Integral EvoFire Downlight and finally we switched the outside wall lights from the 150W RX7 halide up/down lights with the Ansell Pouri LED up/down wall light, a sleek fitting perfect for the exterior of this hotel.

The Bottom Line…

Small Changes, Big Impact

The Best Western Gloucester Robinswood Hotel underwent a comprehensive lighting overhaul, enhancing both back-of-house and guest-facing areas like the bar and restaurant. By using versatile and efficient LED fittings, the lighting upgrade maintained functionality while aligning with aesthetics. Completed in just three weeks, this smooth, single-phase installation resulted in a 1.9-year return on investment and £21,254 in annual energy savings, showcasing impressive efficiency and cost-effectiveness for the hotel.
