Best Western Birmingham Strathalan
Best Western Birmingham Strathalan is part of the hotel group’s signature collection, an exclusive collection of hotels where daring and cool design is the focus. The main objective of this project was to maximise energy savings in rooms with frequent or full occupancy where lighting is on for 24 hours a day. This project originated from a request from head office who had recognised our excellent LED lighting project service and were keen to extend this to more hotels. After our initial site survey, which was of the entire site including guest-facing areas like meeting rooms and back-of-house areas like kitchens and storerooms. A key feature of this case study was to ensure that dimmers were compatible with the upgraded dimmable lighting, an issue where our experience really shines. Overall, the installation was extremely smooth and thus the project was a huge success.

Reception & Lounge
The reception area of a hotel is crucial for first impressions. It’s the first point of contact between guests and the hotel so a warm and welcoming reception sets a positive tone for a guest’s entire stay. This area reflecting the hotel’s quality of service makes it an essential part of an LED lighting project as lighting has such an impact on a guest’s first impression. In the reception and lounge area we replaced 18W 150mmm downlights with Ansell Lado 16W LED Downlight and 120W Halogen Wall Lights with the Philips 14W LED R7s. The savings on wattages in the wall lights are significant without any compromise on the quality of light. This means that the overall impact of the reception and lounge area leaves nothing lacking.
The Products
The range of areas upgraded in this project meant it required a variety of different LED lighting products. Our knowledge of the best LED lighting technology means that we can choose the most suitable lighting for our clients at Best Western Birmingham Strathalan. We replaced 18w compact fluorescent downlights with the Integral Multifit LED downlight, failing LED panels with the Integral LED Evo 600×600 Panel, 16W 2D Fittings with the Ansell LED Disco bulkhead. In addition to this we replaced a range of 2ft, 4ft and 5ft battens with their respective Bell LED Dura LED Battens with emergency functionality where required. We upgraded 28W 2D recessed fittings with the Bell LED Aqua fitting, 35W halogen downlights with the Philips Corepro LED GU10 alongside the Integral EvoFire Downlight, 7W SES halogen candles with the Bell 6W SES LED candle and finally in the car park area we replaced 150W Halogen Floodlights with the 30W Philips LED Ledinaire Floodlight.
