Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Express Middlesborough
Holiday Inn Express Middlesborough has a central location, close to many different attractions such as the Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art, Middlesborough Football Club and natural attractions such as Albert Park and Newham Grange Country Farm. This hotel even offers a pillow menu for its guests, where they can choose the best pillow for a perfect night’s sleep. This shows that client experience, comfort and satisfaction were at the top of our client’s priorities. We surveyed the site in its entirety and replaced lighting in meeting rooms, and many back-of-house areas such as storerooms, staircases and staff offices. This made it essential to supply durable and functional lighting most suited to these areas.

Spotlight On…
Back of House
The back of house areas were the central focus of this project. It is essential that these areas are well lit to support the inner workings of hotel life. These areas are in constant use by hotel personnel, and it is crucial that they can navigate through the hotel safely and efficiently so that guests can have the best stay possible. We replaced 600 x 600 panel fittings of four T5 Tubes with the Ansell 600 x 600 LED Panel in staircases, the staff room, and the back offices, saving a great deal of energy in each location. In addition to this we replaced T5 5ft singular battens with the Ansell 5ft LED Tornado batten fittings. These fittings are durable so made the perfect choice for these areas to maximise their function.
The Products
Our clients at Holiday Inn Express Middlesborough required long lasting battens and fittings and we chose the best products to fulfil this requirement. We replaced 2D compact fluorescent fittings with the Ansell LED Disco downlight. These fittings offer a great reduction in wattage without compromising on brightness and they are incredibly long lasting. Additionally we replaced compact fluorescent downlights with the Philips Master Value 4.9W GU10 alongside the Integral EvoFire downlight, a flush fitting that is in keeping with the hotel design.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
This project had hugely successful outcomes, with lighting replacements maximising the overall productivity and efficiency of hotel staff. The results of this save the hotel over five thousand pounds annually in energy costs and over thirty eight thousand kilowatts per hour in energy. This case study shows the benefit of upgrading to LED lighting in back of house and non client facing areas as these areas can contribute to a hotel’s overall energy efficiency and sustainability.
