Return on Investment Case Study…
Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre
This hotel is in a stunning Georgian building right in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre. Our clients at Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre were keen to replace the lighting in bedrooms, meeting rooms, guest toilets and back of house areas such as housekeeping and various basement rooms. A priority for our clients was to save on energy by adding sensors to light fittings in the luggage rooms aswell as the toilets. This helps to save energy by reducing the number of hours that lighting is in use. In addition to this, our clients wanted to replace their existing emergency function lighting in meeting rooms and toilets to increase guest safety in the event of an emergency. Therefore, due to the different types of rooms being upgraded and the various client specific needs, this project included a range of products from spotlights and bulkheads to PIR sensors and emergency coins.

Spotlight On…
Bedrooms
The lighting in the bedrooms at Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre is stylishly placed on the headboards of the bed. Therefore, it was essential to make sure that we replaced the lights with an LED equivalent that fit perfectly in place so that there would be no compromise on the lighting design. We replaced the T5 tube fittings with the Osram LED 115mm 16W LED Tube. This meant the effect of the lighting could remain the same when switching to a more energy efficient LED. Additionally, we replaced the 9W PLS lamps, which are used to light mirrors, with the Crompton 5W LED PLS equivalent. These lighting switches meant that the rooms could maintain their ambience and modern style.
The Products
This project required a wide variety of replacements, from fluorescent tubes and spotlights to emergency fittings. The top products used in this project were the Osram LED 115mm T5 Tube, used to replace the bedroom lighting. We also used the Ansell Tornado 5FT LED Batten to fluorescent tube fittings. We also supplied the Integral LED emergency coin to add to fittings in the meeting room to add emergency functionality to these fittings for increased safety.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
This project was a great success with emergency and sensor lighting being fitted where required by our clients, increasing functionality and safety in the hotel. This case study proves how LED lighting is an excellent choice when considering replacing your existing lights. Not only do LED lights have lower wattages, but they also have longer lifetimes than their fluorescent and halogen equivalents. This project proves how cost efficient it can be to invest in LED lighting with a tiny return of investment time of 1.25 Years payback, in just over a year, Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre will have their investment fully returned, an excellent result.
