Bathroom Zones

Why Are Bathroom Zones Important?

When conducting lighting projects, electrical safety is vital in all areas but with the potential exposure to moisture and water, it is fundamental that lighting is compliant with safety recommendations and regulations in bathrooms.

In order to ensure safety and compliance, bathrooms are divided into various zones with specific regulations for each area.

The common bathroom zones are zones 0-3, which are defined by their proximity to water sources. When conducting our lighting projects, we cater our solutions to all bathroom zones and provide low voltage and suitable IP-rated products.

How Do We Ensure Your Bathroom Lighting is Safe?

Lightsave Projects Solutions 1

Supply IP Rated Products

When recommending products we will ensure that each product has the appropriate IP rating for the area where they are fitted to make sure that lighting is aligned with zoning regulations and therefore guarantee safety.

Check Existing Fittings

When completing our initial site visit, we record the lighting fixtures that are currently in use and their IP ratings. If required, we can work with you to check the bathroom zones have been applied appropriately and supply products in line with this.

What Are The Different Bathroom Zones?

Zone 0

This zone includes the interior of the shower basin or bath tub. Fixtures in this zone must be rated for immersion in water and therefore must have a minimum IP rating of IP67.

Zone 1

This zone extends vertically above Zone 0, up to a height of 2.25 metres from the floor. Fixtures in this zone are likely to be splashed by water and therefore require a minimum IP rating of IP44.

Zone 2

This zone extends horizontally to the edge of Zone 1 up to a distance of 0.6 metres and vertically up to 2.25 metres. Similar to zone 1, fixtures in this zone are required to be splash-proof and therefore need a minimum IP rating of IP44.

Zone 3

This zone covers the remaining areas of the bathroom that are not covered in zones 0-2. There are not specific IP requirements for fittings in these areas however, they should be suitable for us in damp environments as there is still a risk of exposure to moisture.

When recommending the lighting to be installed in your bathroom areas, we will ensure compliance with the bathroom zones swell as safety standards and proper installation practices.
