Return on Investment Case Study…
Crowne Plaza Derby Mickleover
Like our other project sites, Best Western Derby Mickleover is part of the Best Western Signature Collection of Hotels, renowned for their distinctiveness and unique character. Each hotel in this collection is curated to showcase individuality so maintaining the desired lighting aesthetic was paramount throughout the project.
This project was of a particularly large scale and remit due to the hotel’s immensity; its meeting rooms, suites, back-of-house areas, bedrooms and outdoor areas that required their lighting to be upgraded. This project’s completion was exceptionally smooth, owing to the way in which the installation lasted for three weeks and our project team playing a more hands-on role in the project management. Extended installation time on this project meant that any issues or errors highlighted at the start were managed and resolved during the installation rather than further site revisits.
Furthermore, our projects with LGH hotels have often utilised our optional contingency cost which includes a margin of excess in the quoted quantity of products in order to mitigate the risk of shortages during the installation process. All these factors combined led to an effective project.

Spotlight On…
The Atrium
The atrium is an impressive spectacle of the hotel, an architectural feature of the hotel which you encounter as soon as you enter. This feature has a very high aesthetic impact making it essential for lighting enhancement. We replaced mixture of MR16s and GU10 halogen downlights that surround the atrium on each floor with the Philips 3.5W LED GU10 alongside the Integral EvoFire Fitting. This change meant that the lighting in this area is now much more consistent, elevating the look of the area.
The Products
In some areas of this hotel, PIR sensors were a crucial attribute of the lighting that was in place. Taking this into consideration, we replaced 26W Compact Fluorescent emergency sensor downlights with the 18W LED Ansell Freska, chosen for its integrated emergency and sleek finish. The outdoor and car park area of this hotel also had a range of corn lamps and SON lamps which we replaced with the Philips 16W True Force LED. These lamps consume significantly less electricity and have incredibly long lifetimes. We also replaced corridor Compact Fluorescent wall lights with the Ansell Disco Evo 1 Downlight, fitted with corridor function emergency, a perfect choice for the requirements of this area.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
With the project completed at the Best Western Derby Mickleover, the headlines figures speak for themselves. The monumental cost savings and extremely quick payback period highlight just how much can be saved by investing in an LED lighting project and illustrate how working with Lightsave Projects can provide so many benefits. A project with such a wide range of requirements is where our strengths and expertise come into their own. Best Western Derby Mickleover is making excellent savings on their energy costs without any sacrifice on lighting quality and functionality, it’s a bright win-win!
