Return on Investment Case Study…
Best Western Preston Leyland
The Best Western Preston Leyland is part of the Best Western Signature Collection of hotels, a collection where the focus is on giving guests a distinctive hotel experience. This made the atmosphere and ambience of paramount importance in our considerations during this project. We surveyed this property at the behest of Best Western Head Office as part of the LGH Hotel Management group’s measures to make their hotels more energy efficient. We conducted a full site survey of BW Preston Leyland, where the lamps that required replacement were a mixture of compact fluorescents and halogens. This project was completed smoothly with any issues being resolved efficiently due to our expert experience.

Spotlight On…
Reception, Lounge & Bar
A standout part of this project was the reception, lounge and bar area. As the primary point of entry into the hotel, it was important to provide a welcoming feel for guests and to extend hospitality. In this area we replaced a mixture of 35W halogen MR16 and LED MR16s for the Philips Corepro 3.7W LED GU10 alongside the Integral Evofire, Fire rated and IP65 rated downlight. This replacement meant that, unlike previously, the lamps were consistent across the whole area, meaning that the illumination was even and uniform.
Whilst this project went smoothly overall, we encountered some small hiccups along the way. Whilst on site we encountered many different dimmer packs including Mode Tiger dimmers which after investigation we found did not work with LED lamps. To solve this, we bypassed the dimmer packs and ran directly to rotary dimmers. Our experience in this area means that we can engineer solutions swiftly so that any minor changes like this do not detract from the overall success of the project.
The Products
This project required a wide variety of replacements, from downlights and spotlights to non-corrosive battens. The top products used in this project were the Philips Master Value 3.7W LED GU10, used to replace Halogen MR16s. We also used the Ansell Disco EVO LED Bulkhead to replace 2D Bulkheads. We also upgraded the incandescent candle lamps for the stylish Osram 4W frosted Filament Candles, giving the table lamps a much more rustic look.

The Bottom Line…
Small Changes, Big Impact
This project saved Best Western Preston Leyland an impressive amount of energy and money but the heart of this project was to ensure that the lighting supplied fit the variety of specific requirements needed for each area. It was crucial the meeting suites had dimming capabilities aswell as ensuring that across the site the variety of downlights, battens, bulkheads and tubes were replaced with like for like LED lamps and fixtures.
Best Western Preston Leyland’s lighting project has led to the site saving vast amounts on energy and money whilst not compromising on functionality and consistency.
